When and why did you join the Seckford Education Trust?

I joined SET in September 2016 as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant, having moved to the UK from France.   I was attracted to SET because of its size and the potential to know each and every student individually.   I also felt that it was the best start for my daughters who joined the school and benefitted from the school’s vision of “inspiring, enabling and celebrating each and every young person’s personal best”. At interview, it was made clear that I would be offered support to further my knowledge of the UK education system and develop my career with further learning. 


How has the Seckford Education Trust supported your development?

Whilst working as a HLTA at SET, I have been encouraged to continue my learning in specialist areas which were of interest to me and now have qualifications in:

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health

I am currently training for my accreditation to become a Thrive Adolescence Licensed Practitioner.


Which specific aspects of the Seckford Education Trust’s CPD offer had the most impact on you?

The support to undertake additional training by flexible open learning was extremely helpful as I could fit it into my work/home schedule when it was convenient to do so.

I am currently training for my accreditation to become a Thrive Adolescence Licensed Practitioner which will allow us to support the social and emotional development of the young people whom we are working with.   This is an area which I hope to develop further in our schools and specialist units in the future.


What would you say to someone considering applying for a job within the Seckford Education Trust?

The best thing about working at SET is the support that you get from the other staff around you, the teamwork and the ability to get to know our students individually and to modify/target education specifically aimed at their learning abilities. 


Where do you see yourself in the Seckford Education Trust in 5 years?

The school is always striving to improve and develop, and our Special Educational Needs department and The Forge are areas which I envisage growing in the future.   I anticipate a need for more Teaching Assistants in the classroom to support our students with EHCPs and to give them the best chance of success.   I would love the opportunity of a leadership role to train, mentor and support the development of other teaching assistants who join our school community.
