Staff trained in First Aid are always on the School site to deal with accidents or incidents that require first aid treatment, or to provide regular medication or care to students with ongoing medical issues. Students are able to store their medication in the School office and have access to it when required (with parental consent – consent forms available from Main Reception). Students with ongoing medical conditions will have a care plan setting out how their needs will be met in school (directed by their Doctor).
Immunisations are offered to students in school (with parental consent) as directed by the NHS. More details can be found in the NHS Immunisations Schedule.
Every Thursday at SET Ixworth School we offer ‘Drop in’ sessions with the School nurse. These sessions are designed to support all students and to provide the Healthy Child Programme, through five key pathways based on physical health and development, sexual health, emotional health and wellbeing, as well as further support which aims to reduce vulnerability and increase resilience and safeguarding.
The School Nurse will support children and parents to ensure they have access to a range of services. They offer:
- Assemblies at key transition points
- Health assessments for Year 10
- ChatHealth virtual school nurse messaging service
- Weekly confidential ‘drop-ins’ in secondary schools for pupils offering Suffolk c-card condom scheme, chlamydia testing, pregnancy testing and emergency hormonal contraception provision
- Follow up if required for accident and emergency attendance and police domestic abuse referrals
- Health advice, signposting and referrals
