Book Mastermind Lucas is through to Suffolk final
An Ixworth student will be putting his literary knowledge to the test when he goes head to head with other like-minded youngsters for the final of Suffolk Book Mastermind.
Lucas Measures will be representing Ixworth Free School at the county-wide competition – inspired by the BBC’s famous quiz show.
The Year 9 student competed against youngsters from 10 other schools in the west Suffolk area final, before winning a place in the county final, to be held on May 5 in Stratford St Andrew.
He was tasked with answering a series of questions based on his chosen book, ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding, followed by a general knowledge round.
Niki King, Headteacher at Ixworth Free School, said: “Lucas has a real passion for literature and enjoys reading challenging books, so it is great to see his success in the Suffolk Book Mastermind competition. We are all very proud of Lucas’ achievements so far and we wish him the best of luck as he represents the school at the county final in May.”
The Suffolk Book Mastermind is an annual competition organised by Suffolk Library Services for students in Years 7 to 9. Ixworth Free School held their own Mastermind-inspired competition earlier in March, before Lucas was invited to the west Suffolk area final at Westley Middle School in Bury St Edmunds on March 15.
