Book Mastermind County Final
On Friday 5th May, Lucas Measures and four supporters (Daniel Buckley, Holly Bamber, Joel Cross and Ellie Robertson) with the assistance of Miss Campbell attended the 22nd County Final of the Book Mastermind competition.
The competition took place at the Riverside Centre, Stratford St. Andrew. In the first round (which was on a chosen book) Lucas Measures answered questions on the Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman and got off to a solid start earning 7.5 points on his book. In my opinion, he did amazingly well, even though he had a last minute book change and it was a very difficult book.
Then, there was the general knowledge round, where he scored 8 answering questions on a range of subjects, covering mathematics, geography and science (amongst others). After receiving a certificate for participation Lucas commented; “It is not the actions you do that matter, it is why you do them”. The winner was a student from Debenham High School whose chosen book was Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.
After lunch, we had two award-winning guest authors talk about their careers, Dave Shelton and Ruth Fitzgerald. It was an incredibly exciting chance to listen about the life as a writer, working with publishers and their ability to interpret somebody’s work to decide whether their dreams would be made in to a real piece of literature.
We would like to thank Suffolk Libraries for helping to set up this event, as we have had a great deal of fun participating in the event and really enjoyed ourselves!
We look forward to next year!
